Free webinars are one of our favorite ways to work with the field. They are a low-commitment way for library workers to see how we teach — and a chance for us to learn what libraries are actually wrestling with right now. This June we have two on the calendar.
June 11 — Human-Centered AI Policies for Public Libraries
Plenty of libraries know they need an AI policy. Far fewer have one they feel good about.
This one-hour session is a preview of a longer paid workshop. We will review the core components of AI literacy, adoption, and usage policy — and how the three fit together — then walk through a dozen real policy documents to see what works and what to avoid. We will finish by using AI tools to draft policy language live, so you can see the process end to end.
It is built for directors, administrators, and staff who are thinking about an AI policy, whether you are starting from a blank page or revising a draft.
June 18 — AI Literacy Training for Public Library Patrons
The second webinar moves from staff to the public. How do you build an AI literacy program for patrons — people who may have never used an AI tool, and who deserve a safe place to start?
We will talk through learning goals, curriculum building blocks, and the platforms patrons can learn on, including ChatGPT and PLAID3 Hub. Then attendees will collaboratively draft a pilot plan they can take straight back to their own library.
No prior AI experience is needed — for you or for the patrons you serve.
How to join
Both webinars are free and require registration. They run from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Pacific and take place online via Zoom.
