There are approximately 8.27 billion articles written about AI recently, and scientists estimate that new articles come out at the rate of 12,000 per day. It's tough to keep up with the literature! Algorithmic Bias
- IBM's "AI Bias Examples" and notes [IBM]
This is a great resource with a solid overview of AI/algorithmic bias, how it is introduced into AI models, and ways to mitigate it. In addition, there are examples of real-world algorithmic bias in healthcare, criminal justice, and other social systems.
- Algorithmic Justice League
This organization has resources for learning about and combatting algorithmic bias and promoting equity in AI systems.
- ACLU's Accountability in Artificial Intelligence project
As part of the ACLU's Racial Justice Program, the Accountability in AI project exists to "challenge AI's power to preserve and exacerbate systemic racism..." with facts, figures, and resources.
- Machine Bias [Pro Publica]
A fascinating and well-researched report (from 2016!) about racial inequities in criminal justice software.
Environmental Impact
- Using ChatGPT is not bad for the environment - a cheat sheet by Andy Masley
This is a very long essay, not a simple cheat sheet as the title suggests. It's well-researched and covers the "AI and the environment" topic thoroughly in three main categories: electricity consumption, water consumption, and carbon emissions.
- International Energy Agency Report on AI and Energy, 2025
IEA has a whole interactive portal here, featuring industry leader video interviews, data, even an interactive chatbot in case reading the actual PDF is just too much right now.
Labor / Workforce Impact
- Will Generative AI Disproportionately Affect the Jobs of Women? McNeilly, Smith 2023
Analysis of findings that "21% more women are exposed to AI automation than men even though men outnumber women in the workforce" and what that could mean for the future of work for women.
- The Rapid Adoption of Generative AI, Bick, Blandin, Deming 2024
This widely-cited report from the National Bureau of Economic Research demonstrated that approximately 40% of working-age adults had tried AI and almost a quarter of employed respondents used it at work within the previous week.

- The AI Con (Emily M. Bender and Alex Hanna)
This is a website for their book about AI and the AI industry, as well as the home of their podcast Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000. Bender is very well-known as one of the preeminent researchers and voices in the impact of AI.
- Questioning AI Resource List
This is a giant Google doc filled with academic and journal articles about why AI is bad. There's a special section with dozens of anti-AI memes and AI fail examples. We couldn't find an author attribution but we'd love to credit whoever it is.
- Against AI (Anna Kornbluh, Krista Muratore, Eric Hayot)
This is an entire website with readings, suggested class assignments, a meme gallery, and more -- all, just like it says on the tin, against AI.
